Gold Sphinx Earrings

Product Description

Norman Lindsay was fascinated by the world of Greek mythology and his home and grounds at Faulconbridge are dotted with examples of Satyrs, sirens and sphinx.

The original Greek sphinx derived from the Oedipus legend. This half-woman, half-lion guarded the road to Thebes and ate travellers unable to answer her riddles.

Lindsay created a large cement sphinx statue in the grounds of the property in 1943 to guard the steps to the pool.  This then became the symbol for the property.

Lindsay along with Rayner Hoff jointly cast a radiator cap for his wife Rose’s 1926 model Vauxhall car for which Rose was the model.
