Product Description

In 2018, The Social Canvas, launched an Art-series tribute to the historic "Parramatta Cloth" which was once a significant local product, beginning with the making of 100% linen tea towels

For many decades since the 1790s fine natural fibre fabrics were woven for the early Colony in Parramatta.

Initially raw wool was washed on the riverbank for the Factory above the Gaol, the site of which is now Prince Alfred Square and Riverside Theatres.
Industry expanded upstream to Governor. Macquarie's 2nd Female Factory on Fleet Street, and downstream to the Queens Wharf, known as Byrnes Mill.

Parramatta Cloth designs make a quality gift or kitchen-hand suggestion.
With a black background,a monochrome print of an original painting "Land Spirits #7" by artist Geoff Sellman is screen printed.
The painting received the KARI award at the 2017 Mil-Pra AECG Aboriginal Art Exhibit in December 2017 at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

You will receive one black  linen tea towel with a yellow design
